Every class follows a simple rhythm that gives students time to learn new skills, put them into practice, and finish the session having fun. Class times may vary depending on the session length and the needs, energy, and engagement of the group that day.
Students learn new digital art skills, techniques, and concepts through guided instruction and live demonstrations.
Students put the lesson into practice through their own artwork, with individual guidance and feedback when they need it.
We finish with creative games, challenges, sharing, and activities that let students relax, experiment, and enjoy making art.
As students build their skills and confidence, their artwork grows with them.
Hi, I'm Jonny De Oliveira, founder of Pen & Tablet. Before starting Pen & Tablet, I worked as a Behaviour Teacher, but art and teaching have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I actually started teaching kids how to draw when I was still a kid myself. Teachers would invite me into younger classrooms to lead simple how-to-draw lessons, and at the time, I had no idea those little moments would grow into such a big part of who I am today. Now, I get to combine both of those passions by helping young artists build real digital art skills while giving them the freedom to experiment, be creative, and develop a style that feels like their own.
I started Pen & Tablet to provide digital art lessons for kids, and to bring young artists together through their shared love of art, anime, cartoons, comics and video games. It’s the kind of program I wish I’d had growing up, and I love being able to give young artists a place where their interests are understood, encouraged and developed.
My classes are designed to balance clear instruction with hands-on practice and fun. Students aren't expected to create the same thing in the same way — they're encouraged to learn the fundamentals and then make those skills their own.
We typically provide programs for youth ages 8–14.
No. Beginners are encouraged and welcome to dive into the world of digital art with us!
We use Procreate, Nomad Sculpt, Procreate Dreams, and Various Pose Applications.
No. We provide the equipment for use so you don't have to. Your child is welcome to bring their own compatible tablet to program so long as they have the applications Procreate, and Nomad Sculpt.
We play online games together such as Gartic Phone, and offline games that we have curated for the program such as Criminal Sketch Artist, as well as some classics like Pictionary!
